Altea is the cultural capital of the Valencia region. It has long been famous for attracting many types of artists and craftsmen who show and sell their arts and crafts in some of the finest galleries, shops and boutiques reflecting the upmarket status of the area. Altea is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Mediterranean". In the old quarter you will find quiet bars and excellent restaurants offering very good value-for-money international cuisine in a relaxing and "old world charm" atmosphere. Altea is designated as a marine resort, and at the same time remains a working town, not totally dependent on tourism and remains open all the year round. A small fishing port and a weekly market on Tuesdays.
Is located within a small private gated complex near the town of Altea, being roughly midway between Alicante airport (60km 50 minutes) and Valencia airport (120km 90 minutes).
The apartment has 3 double sized bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 en suite) large lounge with dining area and a modern fully equipped kitchen with separate utility room. Leading off the lounge is the balcony for outdoor dining overlooking the Spanish countryside of fruit plantations and views towards the sea in the distance. Immediately behind the complex rises the mountains of the Sierra Bernia providing a dramatic backdrop to the whole beautiful location.
The complex offers a fantastic swimming pool, which is covered and heated from October to May.
The apartment has large ceiling fans throughout the living area and bedrooms and air conditioning units in the master bedroom and the lounge. A modern eco wood burner will ensure that you remain comfortable during the occasional chill of a winters evening. A marble staircase leads to the large 40 sq mtr rooftop solarium, equipped with a Gas BarBQ, solarium shower and outdoor furniture for just lounging in the sun, or rooftop dining and entertaining.
The views from the rooftop solarium are simply beautiful, with the majesty of the near mountains on one side, and the views across undisturbed countryside towards the sea on the other side.
The delightful village of Altea la Vella with its dramatic backdrop of the Sierra Bernia mountains is only 2 km away. It has typical old Spanish charm with quaint narrow streets lined with cottages leading up to the village church. Small local shops provide a wide range of facilities which include a well stocked supermarket, with butchery, delicatessen, bakery, and wines. A bank with ATM, two international newsagents, two bakers, greengrocer, pharmacy, patisseries and some very fine restaurants. On the outskirts of the village is the well respected 9 hole Don Cayo Golf Course which boasts the longest Par 5 in Europe.
The nearest beach is less than a 10 minute drive away, and you can choose between small beaches in small coves or the larger beaches of Albir or Calpe with their easy and free parking.
Terra Mitica, the water theme park or Terra Natura the animal and natural history theme park, are only a 20 minute drive away.
The area has a rich variety of excellent restaurants serving food of all different culters. From the local fish restaurants lining the quaysides of Calpe and Altea to the Internationally recognised gastronomiques within both the towns and foothill locations.
A must do visit is to El Castell de Guadalest, the fortified historic village which can only be approached through a tunnel in the mountainside. Its history and buildings date back to the time of the Moors, and the views are to die for. A truely wonderful day for the whole family.
The area has a great attraction to cyclist both local and international because of its high quality road surfaces, fine views and challenging climbs. Bicycles can also be hired for trips around the flat sea shore promenades and along special cycle lanes for inter town rides.
Sitting on the the balcony or roof-terrace solarium you have wide vista views over fruit plantations and to the sea. You can study the mountain ranges immediately behind the complex.
This is an ideal location for walking in the mountains only a short distance away, and yet only 2 km from the village with a full range of small shops and excellent restaurants. The complex provides excellent facilities for a full family holiday with sunbathing by the pool with the children or simply chilling out on the roof terrace. For the more sporting minded is the beautiful Don Cayo golf course which welcomes visitors.
The apartment has a wonderful 45 sq m private solarium fully equipped with sun beds, table and chairs for outdoor dining with a gas BBQ and a shower to cool off.
A choice of beaches of either fine sand or pebble are from less than 4 kms away and ports of Altea and Calpe provide full marine and yachting facilities.
The apartment is fully equipped to a very high standard as any family home. Satellite TV with all UK and many European channels. the apartment has air conditioning in the summer in the lounge and main bedroom and ceiling fans in the others to keep you cool and an eco-wood burner stove keeps you warm during the winter evenings. A safe is provided for your document security.
The apartment is equipped with Wifi, CD and DVD players, a large selection of DVD and CDs (English only) and a good selection of card and family games.
